ition towards democracy, international and domestic NGOs are facing increasing pressure, hostile attacks, harassment and intimidation in Egypt; whereas, on 4 June 2013, a Cairo criminal court convicted 43 foreign and Egyptian NGO workers to up to five years in prison for civil society activities and ordered the closure and the confiscation of assets of local branches of five international NGOs which had been operating in Egypt for a long time, namely the Konrad Adenauer Foundation,
