43. Urges the Commission and the Member States to explore the issues with the African Union, NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa’s Development), AMCEN (African Ministerial Conference on the Environment), and the African Union Commission, in the framework of the forthcoming Africa EU Summit 2014, in order to identify areas of collaborative action on this global challenge for the future Joint Africa-EU Strategy 2014-2020;

In addition, the European Commission and the AU are pursuing their wider dialogue on the environment, encompassing the implementation of Multilateral Environment Agreements, disaster risk reduction, integration of environment in development and coordination with various relevant pan-African partners (AUC, NEPAD, AMCEN, UNEP).

85. Points out that Africa is the continent predicted to suffer the effects of climate change most severely; therefore urges the EU, the AU and their Member States, as well as investors and business actors, to acknowledge their responsibility for climate change, and calls on them to develop an environment friendly development strategy in order to reverse the situation, including a financial framework for environmental adaptation; further calls on the EU to offer financial support to the Action Plan for the Environment Initiative of NEPAD and its operational decisions adopted by the African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN) in Brazzaville, Co ...[+++]ngo, in 2006, and endorsed by the Eighth AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in January 2007;
