With respect to the self-defence provisions, I echo the statements of my colleague Mr. Spratt in that a simplification of the self-defence provisions is very welcome, I think, by all sides, and I would also echo the concerns of both witnesses with respect to the need for an explicit statement of proportionality and echo as well Mr. Spratt's comments to the effect that we need to ensure that it is understood under 34(c) that there is a subjective component as well as an objective component.
Pour ce qui est des dispositions relatives à la légitime défense, je me fais l'écho des déclarations de mon collègue M. Spratt lorsqu'il dit que la simplification des dispositions relatives à la légitime défense est une excellente chose, je crois, pour tout le monde et je me ferai également l'écho des préoccupations des deux témoins concernant la nécessité d'exiger clairement la proportionnalité et je me fais également l'écho des commentaires de M. Spratt, au sujet du fait qu'il faut indiquer que l'alinéa 34c) comprend un élément subjectif ainsi qu'un élément objectif.
