While we all welcome the prioritisation of the Commission in this area, what I was hearing from the Environment Agency in my own Member State was concern that the penalties and possible fines in Member States will be pitched far too low for there to be any real incentive to obey rules where enforcement action would not actually occur.
Nous nous félicitons tous de la priorité accordée par la Commission à ce domaine, mais ce que j’ai entendu de la part de l’Agence de l’environnement dans mon propre État membre, c’était l’inquiétude de voir les amendes et les sanctions éventuelles infligées aux États bien trop faibles pour constituer un incitant suffisant à respecter les règles là où des mesures coercitives ne seraient pas réellement imposées.
