The purpose of this bill, this Canadian legislation, is not to alter the law of succession but simply to assent to the principles in the U.K. bill, that is, that the common-law rule of male primogeniture will no longer apply to the law of succession to the throne, and that the disqualifications arising from marrying Roman Catholics, the disqualifications of heirs, will no longer be part of the law of the United Kingdom.
L'objectif de notre projet de loi canadien n'est pas de modifier la loi sur la succession, mais simplement de donner notre assentiment au principe du projet de loi britannique, soit que la règle de common law de la primogéniture des hommes ne s'applique plus à la loi concernant la succession au trône et que l'admissibilité des héritiers qui épousent des catholiques ne fasse plus partie de la loi du Royaume-Uni.
