Job changes, wage change and employment equity groups

The Helsinki Group on women and science has identified a specific need in the following key policy objectives: increasing the number of women in science; reducing both horizontal segregation (whereby women are concentrated in certain sectors or disciplines) and vertical segregation (whereby women tend to be in lower hierarchical positions); eliminating pay gaps; and ensuring fairness and equity.

2. For the purposes of Article ▐ 19, the Board of Supervisors shall convoke an independent panel to facilitate the consistent, fair and impartial settlement of the disagreement, consisting of the Chairperson, two appropriately qualified independent experts and at least two of its members, who are not representatives of the competent authorities which are party to the disagreement and who have neither any interest in the conflict nor direct links to the competent authorities concerned.

7. Calls on the European Council to endorse the policy guidance to shift the tax burden as part of non-wage costs away from labour while encouraging the companies benefiting from those exemptions/reductions to offer decent living wages in return; believes that this would make hiring and retaining employees more attractive and improve the overall labour market situation, particularly that of vulnerable groups; calls on the European Council, in line with the subsidiarity principle, to endorse the guidance on increasing revenue through fair, progressive, redistributive, effective and efficient taxation, and better tax coordination to combat tax evasion, ...[+++] so as to ensure the fairness of the system and preserve social cohesion;

7. Emphasises that employment guaranteeing fair and decent wages and working conditions must be viewed, together with education and effective and efficient social security systems, as one of the most potent safeguards against poverty and social inclusion, - bearing in mind that it is not, however, sufficient to ensure the inclusion of certain social groups that are typically the most disadvantaged; calls on the Commission and Member States, therefore, to implement effectively Directive 2000/78/EC; welcomes the Commission's ongoing examination of the transposition of that Di ...[+++]rective and encourages the Commission to take necessary action in cases where transposition has not been properly effected; calls on the Commission to address issues relating to "quality of work" in its report resulting from the consultation launched in its communication on social reality stocktaking;
