One result was that the Commission paid attention to slow financial reporting from the projects, stressing a need to find incentives to speed it up.

Innovations introduced in this area in the new period include: the common Structural Funds financial database SFC, the linking of interim payments to submission of annual reports, better forecasting of payment claims, coding of projects according to a standard classification, reporting of financial corrections and recoveries, and access to detailed project information for analysis before audits.

This integration, through the FSAP, should make it possible to reinforce financial stability and market integrity, establish a framework for the implementation and enforcement of common European legislation and ensure that the new additional markets after enlargement will be absorbed smoothly into the EU regulatory system.
