We need, of course, a bit of distance in time to judge whether an event marks a turning point in history, but my feeling – and I should like to convey this to you very openly – is that this first meeting of the G20 Heads of State or Government genuinely marks the beginning of a new era in the collective steering of the global economy, and perhaps more than that, since the crisis has made the protagonists realise the need for a global approach to global problems. That is my feeling.
Il faut bien sûr un peu de recul dans le temps pour juger si un événement est un tournant historique, mais mon sentiment – et je voudrais vous le transmettre très ouvertement –, c’est que cette première réunion du G20 au niveau des chefs d’État et de gouvernement marque vraiment le début d’une nouvelle ère dans le pilotage collectif de l’économie mondiale, et même peut-être au-delà de cela. Car la crise a fait sentir aux protagonistes le besoin d’avoir une approche globale face aux problèmes globaux.
