In 1990, Tiercé Ladbroke, the Belgian subsidiary of Ladbroke

The ten sociétés de courses hold the intellectual property rights to the races they organize; Ladbroke claimed that they had infringed Article 86 of the EEC Treaty by refusing to supply Tiercé Ladbroke in Belgium with television coverage of French races comprising sound, pictures and commentary.
