– (CS) Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, the detachment of the public from the institutions and bodies of the European Union, the lack of identification with the process of European integration and also the failure to involve the public in debates over the extent of future enlargement are all confronting the EU as a whole with a sizeable problem. This has manifested itself most strikingly in the French and Dutch referenda on ratification of the EU Constitution.
- (CS) Monsieur le Président, Monsieur le Commissaire, Mesdames et Messieurs, l’indifférence du public par rapport aux institutions et aux organes de l’Union européenne, le manque d’identification au processus d’intégration européenne et l’incapacité à impliquer le public dans les débats relatifs à l’importance du futur élargissement sont autant de points qui confrontent l’UE à un problème de taille, dont la manifestation la plus frappante ont été les référendums français et néerlandais sur la ratification de la Constitution européenne.
