The main risk facing the European Parliament is paralysis, inaction, being sure of our principles and values and being in general agreement, but not creating a common European political project to deal with this great issue that is going to affect our present and our future, and treating it as if it were somebody else’s problem: as if it were something that happened to the Americans on 11 September, a few years ago, or specifically to Spain, for particular reasons, on 11 March, but I do not believe that that is what we should do.
Le principal risque encouru par le Parlement européen est la paralysie, l’inaction; c’est d’être sûr de ses principes et de ses valeurs et d’avoir dégagé un consensus général, sans pouvoir créer un projet politique européen commun destiné à résoudre cette question épineuse vouée à affecter notre présent et notre futur, et considérer ce problème comme celui de quelqu’un d’autre, comme s’il s’agissait d’un événement vécu par les Américains le 11 septembre, il y a quelques années, ou uniquement par les Espagnols, pour des raisons particulières, le 11 mars.
