Subsequently, Mr Schröder and Mr Putin acted selfishly when they signed the agreement to build the gas pipeline. It is alleged that the purpose of the pipeline is to guarantee Germany’s energy supply, but that is only half the story. What Mr Schröder is about is supporting Mr Putin’s ‘divide and rule’ policy, which amounts to weakening the Union.
