In all cases efforts must be made to reduce the consumption of primary phosphorus (new inputs, requiring imports to the EU) and to increase the reuse of organic materials (food, processing wastes and composts) and the safe recycling of phosphorus-rich materials currently regarded as ‘wastes’ (animal and human excreta, water waste and sewage sludge). Uses must be developed for by-products produced during processing.
Dans tous les cas, des efforts doivent être consentis pour réduire la consommation de phosphore primaire (nouveaux intrants, exigeant des importations dans l'UE) et d'accroître le taux de réutilisation des matières organiques (aliments, déchets de production et compost) ainsi que le recyclage en toute sécurité de matières riches en phosphore, actuellement considérées comme des «déchets» (déjections animales et humaines, eaux usées et boues d'épuration). Il convient de mettre au point des utilisations pour les sous-produits obtenus au cours du traitement.
