People realize that there have been inequities for too long and that negotiations have taken place for 21 years. Finally, I want to say that the last page of paternalism in Yukon has been turned today, that we are putting an end today to an era that may have been useful at the time for some people, but surely not for the native people, and that a new era in which native people will take control of their destiny, in which there will be no dependence towards the federal government, is beginning.
Les gens constatent qu'on a créé des injustices depuis maintenant trop longtemps, 21 ans de négociations, alors finalement, ce que j'ai à dire, c'est que la dernière page du paternalisme au Yukon est tournée aujourd'hui et on laisse le vieux livre, qui a pu être efficace, à l'époque, pour certains, certainement pas pour les autochtones, on tourne la dernière page et maintenant, on ouvre un nouveau livre, où les nations autocthones se prennent en main, où le bris de la dépendance à l'égard du fédéral va être consacré.
