The Council adopted a Decision on the signing of a new Protocol to the Barcelona Convention concerning cooperation in preventing pollution from ships and in combating pollution of the Mediterranean Sea by oil and hazardous and noxious substances in cases of emergency.

The Council adopted a Recommendation for a Decision authorising the European Community to participate in negotiations on amendments of the Protocol to the Barcelona Convention concerning cooperation in combating pollution of the Mediterranean Sea by oil and other harmful substances.
