To put it in a nutshell, six of them (with the exception of the Canary Islands) rank among the seven poorest regions in the European Union in terms of GDP per capita, and five of them run the highest unemployment rates, on average twice the EU level, and even not far short of three times if we exclude Madeira and the Azores, whose unemployment rates are around half the Community average.
En synthèse, six d'entre elles, Canaries exceptées, se situent parmi les sept régions les plus pauvres de l'Union européenne en termes de PIB par habitant. Cinq d'entre elles enregistrent les taux de chômage les plus élevés, en moyenne le double du niveau de l'Union, voire le triple si l'on exclut Madère et les Açores, où ces taux se situent autour de la moitié de la moyenne communautaire.
