These two British researchers, Wilkinson and Pickett, whom I just mentioned, show very clearly that the sorts of problems commonly associated with those who occupy the bottom rung of the social ladder—social problems like ill health, violence, poor educational performance in children, and so on—in societies with high inequality are also more common among those who occupy the top rung.
