In conclusion, the Commission appeals to the two Member States involved to implement in the short term the most appropriate practical measures to mitigate the consequences of the immediate problems, and, in particular, to make secure the terminals near the French end of the tunnel as well as, in the medium term, to promote the adoption of Community measures recently proposed by the Commission on immigration and the right of asylum, which are likely to finally eliminate the problem.
Finalement, la Commission en appelle aux deux États concernés pour, à court terme, mettre en œuvre les mesures concrètes les plus appropriées pour atténuer les conséquences des problèmes immédiats notamment pour sécuriser les terminaux près du tunnel côté français et pour, à moyen terme, favoriser l’adoption des mesures communautaires que la Commission a proposées récemment dans le domaine de l’immigration et du droit d’asile susceptibles d’éliminer définitivement le problème.
