EuroCatering Language Training (Belgium, French and Dutch-speaking communities): Aimed at trainees, students and workers in the hotel and catering industry, this project seeks to improve their oral language skills in 7 European languages (English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Norwegian, Slovenian and Galician).

Article 4(4) of the Law of 20 December 2002 regulating the working hours of workers, apprentices and trainees in the hotels and catering sector stipulates that "an employer who makes an employee work for more than 48 hours over a 7 day period calculated as the average of the reference period must have obtained the employee's prior consent.

In the framework of the Community programmes "LEONARDO" and "SOCRATES", 56 projects have been financed in 1995-96 in the field of tourism, catering and hotel management, aimed at teaching staff and student mobility, development of vocational training methods, professional curricula, trainee exchanges.

The priorities are : (i) Projection of a distinctive image for Europe as a tourist destination through coordinated publicity and public relations campaigns in non-Community countries; (ii) Implementation of coordinated publicity campaigns aimed at encouraging people in the Member States to take out-of- season holidays; (iii) Co-financing of pilot projects aimed at correcting seasonal concentration and in particular promoting the attraction of regional tourism out of season; (iv) Co-financing of pilot projects designed to facilitate travel for young persons and also for the elderly or disabled; (v) Assistance in the establishment of transnational historical and cultural itineraries; - 2 - (vi) Action towards harmonization of the "curricula" of hotel manag ...[+++]ement and catering and tourism training establishments, plus measures to facilitate the exchange of students and trainees in the tourism sector.
