The Authority adopted a favourable scientific opinion (6) on a possible extension of the use of starting substance 1,4:3,6-dianhydrosorbitol (FCM No 364) to the use as a co-monomer for the production of polyesters, if used at levels of up to 40 mol % of the diol component in combination with ethylene glycol and/or 1,4-bis(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexane, and if polyesters made using 1,4:3,6-dianhydrosorbitol together with 1,4-bis(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexane are not used in contact with foods containing more than 15 % alcohol.
