As the number of committees and formal or informal subcommittees has grown over the years, and the Senate's overall workload has expanded in line with the growth of government, increasing numbers of Senators have come to be faced with unsustainable committee workloads and, in some cases, scheduling conflicts that prevent attendance at committees of central interest.
