Canadian policies should continue to emphasize the region and support the conclusion of a free trade agreement or area of the Americas, with the important caveat that there will need to be vigilance in protecting labour standards, the environment, and those people and economies that may be disadvantaged and marginalized in the process of achieving a free trade area of the Americas.
