In the Canada-Nova Scotia offshore agreement that was negotiated with the federal government, the federal government acknowledged that all of the oil and gas resources from the continental shelf up to 40 leagues seaward, including the great island of Sable, are to be within the jurisdiction of the Government of Nova Scotia.
