More by good fortune than by good planning there has not yet been a major accident resulting in radioactive spillage with a ship carrying radioactive materials although there was an incident some years back where a ship carrying uranium hydrofluoride from France to Riga sank but it is recorded that the containers apparently were recovered without any spillage.
Si l'on ne déplore aucun accident grave de pollution dû aux transports maritimes de substances radioactives, cela procède davantage d’un heureux hasard que de mesures de précaution. Un incident a cependant eu lieu il y a quelques années lorsqu’un navire transportant du fluorhydrate d’uranium entre la France et Riga a coulé, même si les rapports indiquent que les conteneurs ont été apparemment récupérés sans déversement accidentel.
