Depending on the results of this report, the Commission may accompany it with a proposal to further open the EU road haulage market to competition.

HARMONIZATION OF SOCIAL LEGISLATION RELATING TO ROAD TRANSPORT The Council noted an intervention from the French delegation on the need for the liberalization of road transport to be accompanied by an appropriate harmonization of social legislation and the activities of the Commission and the joint committee of social partners in this area.
