People have attempted to map the misuse of firearms against different stages in the evolution of firearms control in Canada, and some have concluded that there is certainly evidence to show it is having an effect; but I would be very reluctant to try to extract from that, or to attribute what is directly a result of firearms control versus what might be directly a result of other preventive mechanisms, such as support for women when they're having difficulty at home in their marriage, or whatever.
