As a signatory of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the subsequent 1967 protocol, Canada has further acknowledged that it respects the right to seek asylum and that it has subsequent obligations under international law to fulfill, in good faith, its treaty obligations and institute a procedure that allows for the effective determination of those who are convention refugees and, therefore, entitled to protection under the convention and the corresponding rights enshrined in the convention.
En tant que signataire de la Convention de 1951 sur le statut des réfugiés et du protocole subséquent de 1967, le Canada a reconnu davantage qu'il respectait le droit de chercher asile et qu'il a donc des obligations à respecter en toute bonne foi en vertu des lois internationales. Il doit donc instituer une procédure permettant de déterminer efficacement qui est réfugié au sens de la Convention et qui, par conséquent, a droit à une protection selon cette Convention et aux droits correspondants qui y sont inscrits.
