If we do not tread very carefully here, and, in particular, if we fail to have ready-made and real solutions to hand against the possibility of the withdrawal of the UN administration causing a power vacuum, either the Serbs will want to protect their countrymen, or the Kosovo Albanians will want self-determination for themselves, and then, in no time at all, we will not only have nullified whatever progress and rapprochement there have been, but we may well also turn out to have destabilised the whole region.
Si nous ne procédons pas avec beaucoup de prudence ici et, en particulier, si nous ne parvenons pas à trouver des solutions toutes faites et réelles pour éviter que le retrait de l’administration des Nations unies ne crée un vide, soit les Serbes voudront protéger leurs concitoyens soit les Albanais du Kosovo voudront l’autodétermination pour eux-mêmes et alors en un rien de temps nous aurons non seulement réduit à néant toute avancée et tout rapprochement, mais nous pourrions également avoir déstabilisé toute la région.
