If one assumes that to expel means that one has created a vacancy - and they were of the opinion that one led to the other - then we were told that the British North America Act said that we could only cause the seat to be vacant if, for two consecutive sessions, he failed to appear; if he took an oath of allegiance to a foreign power; if he was adjudged bankrupt or insolvent; if he was attained of treason or convicted of a felony; and if he ceased to be qualified in respect of property or residence.
