The Committee believes, however, that such an amendment would be largely symbolic for two reasons: first, most stand-alone psychiatric institutions have been closed in favour of providing mental health services in the same hospitals in which physical health services are provided; and second, many services essential to persons living with mental illness (i.e., psychological services or drug therapies) have no or limited coverage under existing provincial health plans.
