However, I do not wish to understate the fact that even in peace time with the variety of the tasks, the nature of the reductions, and the impact of the demands on the Canadian Forces, both in the field and in garrison we are sensing a higher level of stress and of trauma in the general atmosphere of the Canadian Forces, simply because we're literally moving them to a state of burnout and abuse.

When we send a 150-man rifle company overseas, LAV based, their peace-time strength is probably no more than 100, of which 10 or 15 are left out of battle on courses that can no longer be deferred, or they are injured or whatever the case may be.

Our indirect fire assets, our surveillance assets, target acquisition, mini unattended aerial vehicles, sound ranging bases and radar units have grown from peacetime strength of 100 personnel to close to 240.
