In his address to the European Parliament's Intergroup on Animal Welfare on April 14th last, the Commissioner responsible for the Environment, Mr Ripa di Meana, confirmed that the Commission would be transmitting to the Parliament before the end of the month a proposal relating to the use of leg-hold traps and confirmed that the issues of nature conservation and animal welfare were of the highest priority to the Commission".
