In response to the day of action organised by the International Transport Federation, European Commissioners Padraig Flynn (Employment and Social Affairs) and Neil Kinnock (Transport) expressed the firm hope that the social partners will reach an agreement on the issue of shorter working hours before 30 September. If these efforts fail, the Commission will bring forward its own proposals on working time for road transport.
