The nuclear tests carried out by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in October 2006 and May 2009 not only demonstrated the importance of a universal ban on nuclear tests, they also underscored the need for an effective verification regime to monitor compliance with such a ban.

This prohibition does not apply to new substances if they are used as feedstock or for laboratory and analytical uses, to imports for transit through the customs territory of the Community or imports under the temporary storage, customs warehousing or free zone procedure as referred to in Regulation (EC) No 450/2008, unless such imports have been assigned another customs-approved treatment or use as referred to in that Regulation, or to exports subsequent to imports already exempted.

Subject to certain exceptions, the measures implemented by the regulations include: a ban on all goods exported from Canada to Burma, excepting only the export of humanitarian goods; a ban on all goods imported from Burma into Canada; a freeze on assets in Canada of any designated Burmese nationals connected with the Burmese state; a ban on new investment in Burma by Canadian persons and companies; a prohibition on the provision of Canadian financial services to and from Burma; a prohibition on the export of any technical data to Burma; a prohibition on Canadian-registered ships or aircraft from docking or landing in Burma; and a ...[+++]prohibition on Burmese-registered ships or aircraft from docking or landing in Canada and passing through Canada.

With regard to Romania, the restrictions on EU imports of live poultry will continue to apply to the whole country, but the ban on poultry meat and poultry meat products will be regionalised to cover the counties of Tulcea, Constanta, Galati, Braila, Ialomita and Calarasi.
