Ces accords permirent notamment la réouverture et la ré-exploitation - après une interruption de plus d'un an - des puits pétroliers sud-soudanais totalement dépendants des infrastructures (oléoducs, etc.) soudanaises, mais ces accords restent des plus fragiles et potentiellement utilisables comme arme de contrainte soudanaise, comme l'a montré le récent retour en arrière annoncé par le président El-Bachir (9 juin 2013).
These agreements allow in particular for the re-opening and re-exploitation of the South Sudanese oil wells, which are completely dependent on Sudanese infrastructure (oil pipelines etc.) and have been closed for over a year, but the agreements remain extremely fragile and could potentially be used as a means of coercion by Sudan, as shown by President al-Bashir’s recent backtracking on 9 June 2013.
