This Regulation provides a framework for the traceability of products consisting of or containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and food and feed produced from GMOs, with the objectives of facilitating accurate labelling, monitoring the effects on the environment and, where appropriate, on health, and the implementation of the appropriate risk management measures including, if necessary, withdrawal of products.

2. The use of pesticides The principle problems of pesticides are: - the effects on human health of residues in food and water and the human risks associated with spray drift - the negative effect on natural species other than the pests which are being treated The general policy objective must be to reduce the use of such chemicals in agriculture, not only because of the hazards to humans, flora and fauna, but also because of unknown long-term and synergetic effects of the release of these substances into the environment.
