In total, the Natura 2000 network contains over 25 000 sites (Birds and Habitats Directives combined) located on a diverse range of land use types – agriculture, forests, wilderness areas and covering 17 % of EU territory.

This will help to promote the widest possible use and sharing of Earth observation data and information in line with the proposed SEIS and in accordance with existing legislation such as the INSPIRE Directive taking into account the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) principles.
