Plusieurs ministres des États membres qui ont assisté à l’ouverture de la quatrième session du Conseil des droits de l’homme ont emboîté le pas de la présidence en réclamant l’abolition de la peine capitale et, durant la session du Conseil du mois de mars, a eu lieu la seconde lecture - avec l’ajout de nouveaux partisans - de la déclaration contre la peine de mort qui, à l’initiative de l’UE, a été soumise à l’Assemblée générale des Nations unies en décembre 2006 et signée par 85 États des quatre coins de la planète.
Several ministers from EU Member States who were taking part in the opening of the fourth session of the Human Rights Council followed the Presidency in urging the abolition of capital punishment, and the Council’s session in March saw the second reading, with the addition of new supporters, of the declaration against the death penalty, which had, at the European Union’s initiative been put before the UN General Assembly in December 2006 and signed by a total of 85 states from all corners of the globe.
