Je conviens qu’il s’agit d’une crise planétaire et par conséquent je conviens de la nécessité d’un nouveau Bretton Woods, que certains appellent Mark II et d’autres Mark III. Certes, la référence du président Sarkozy au système actuel me rappelle beaucoup ce qu’a fait le général de Gaulle avant l’échec du premier Bretton Woods, avant la «reddition» de Fort Knox quand le président Nixon a décidé de suspendre la convertibilité du dollar en or.

I agree that this is a global crisis and I therefore agree with the need for a Bretton Woods that some are calling Mark II and others are calling Mark III. Certainly, President Sarkozy’s reference to the current system reminds me very much of what General de Gaulle did before the first Bretton Woods failed, before the ‘rendition’ of Fort Knox when President Nixon decided to unpeg the dollar from gold.
