In the first half of the 1990s, the EU experienced an annual average growth in labour productivity (1.9 %) considerably exceeding the US (1.2 %), but the pattern changed dramatically in the following period 1995-2001. The annual growth rate declined to 1.2 %, while the growth in the US expanded to 1.9 %.
