The Commission calls on the Article 29 Working Party to contribute to a more uniform implementation of the Directive by putting forward proposals for a substantial simplification of the notification requirements in the Member States and for co-operation mechanisms to facilitate notifications by multinational companies with establishments in several Member States.

6. A delegated act adopted pursuant to Articles 9 and 11 shall enter into force only if no objection has been expressed either by the European Parliament or the Council within a period of two months of notification of that act to the European Parliament and to the Council or if, before the expiry of that period, the European Parliament and the Council have both informed the Commission that they will not object. That period shall be extended by two months at the initiative of the European Parliament or of the Council.

5. A delegated act adopted pursuant to Article 8(6) shall enter into force only if no objection has been expressed either by the European Parliament or by the Council within a period of two months of notification of that act to the European Parliament and the Council or if, before the expiry of that period, the European Parliament and the Council have both informed the Commission that they will not object.

Judy Wasylycia-Leis moved, That, as March 19, 2002 marks two years since the tragic death of Vanessa Young of Oakville Ontario from an adverse reaction to a prescribed drug approved by Health Canada and, as a coroner’s inquest into that death recommended on April 24, 2001 that the federal government institute a system of mandatory reporting of adverse drug reactions and, as the federal government on September 18, 2001 confirmed in Parliament that it would act to address the inadequacies of its adverse drug reaction reporting system and, as Canadians continue to suffer injury and death from adverse reactions as no significant improvement has been forthcoming, the Health Committee agree to allocate time in its schedule, before Parliament rise ...[+++]s for the summer, to review the process for reporting adverse drug reactions and to make recommendations to improve that reporting and to ensure that prompt action is taken to guarantee the safety of Canadians.
