Even though we have spoken about the broader public health system and the issue of chronic disease, we would like to remind the committee that a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association looking at the outcomes of the SARS epidemic and looking at 144 patients, of whom eight died, concluded that diabetes and other co-morbid conditions were independently associated with poor outcomes.
