En juillet 2007, le ministre des forêts de Nouvelle-Zélande a annoncé que tous les édifices jusqu'à quatre étages financés par le gouvernement, devront au moins considérer le bois comme principal matériau pour la structure et du même coup, il reconnaissait que l'utilisation du bois était un moyen de lutter contre les changements climatiques notamment par la séquestration du carbone et également, la production de bois versus l'acier et le béton est beaucoup moins énergivore.
In July 2007, the minister of forests of New Zealand announced that all buildings up to four storeys funded by the government would have to consider wood as a main material for the structure and at the same time, it recognized that the use of wood is a way to fight climate change, for example, by carbon capture. Also, the production of wood as compared to steel or concrete is much less energy-intensive.
