Sono convinto inoltre che il funzionamento del grande mercato deve essere sostenuto dall'interoperabilità delle grandi rete transeuropee, da un passaggio deciso alla società dell'informazione, dal rispetto dell'ambiente - il nostro bene comune più prezioso - dallo sviluppo rurale che ne è il corollario e, infine, dalla solidarietà delle varie regioni dell'Unione nell'ottica di una maggior coesione.
Looking beyond that, I am convinced that the functioning of the single market must be underpinned by the set of trans-European networks, a resolute changeover to the information society, respect for the environment -- the most precious of all our shared assets -- and rural development which is its corollary, and, last but not least, solidarity between Europe's regions as the basis for cohesion.
