Per quanto riguarda l’Afghanistan, vorrei innanzitutto richiamare l’attenzione sul fatto che, un anno fa, l’Afghanistan era un paese in rovina, che ha sofferto prima sotto una potenza di occupazione, poi a causa di una serie di signori della guerra e da ultimo per una rivoluzione islamica estremista che ha costretto il paese ad un arretramento sociale, introducendo metodi medievali. Infine, il paese è diventato domicilio di terroristi fondamentalisti.
Where Afghanistan is concerned, I should like firstly to draw attention to the fact that, a year ago, Afghanistan was a country in ruins, which initially suffered under an occupying power and a succession of warlords and then under an extreme Islamic revolution which forced through the de-modernisation of society and introduced mediaeval methods. Finally, the country became the domicile of fundamentalist terrorists.
