Noi come Unione europea siamo autonomamente impegnati in uno sforzo straordinario, possiamo dire, che però sappiamo non poter essere risolutivo.Il nostro obiettivo, che condividiamo, è di contenere entro i due gradi il riscaldamento globale rispetto al periodo dell’industrializzazione, sapendo che si tratta già di una soglia ad alto rischio, tant’è che sarà comunque necessario per alcune zone del pianeta, per alcune parti d’Europa, prevedere com’è prevista, una politica di adattamento.Ma se davvero vogliamo perseguire questo difficile obiettivo sappiamo che è assolutamente indispensabile un nuovo trattato internazionale.
As the European Union, we are independently committed to an extraordinary effort, if I may put it that way, even though we know that it does not represent the ultimate solution. Our shared goal is to keep global warming within two degrees of levels in pre-industrial times, fully aware that this is a high-risk threshold, and that it will be necessary for some areas of the world, for some parts of Europe, to make provision, as planned, for a policy of adaptation. If we really want to pursue this difficult goal, however, we know that a new international treaty is absolutely crucial.
