Qualora all’interno dell’area prescelta e nella zona limitrofa il soprassuolo si presenti uniforme per struttura di età e per altezza degli alberi che lo compongono, l’ampiezza della fascia di rispetto può essere ridotta a 5 o 10 m. Qualora il soprassuolo arboreo, al cui interno è delimitata l’area, sia costituito da popolamenti eterogenei, con individui di specie ed età diverse, la fascia di rispetto va estesa fino a raggiungere un’ampiezza pari a 5 volte l'altezza massima potenziale degli alberi presenti nell’area,
The actual width of this zone depends on the type and age of the forest. If the area of the plot and its surroundings is uniform with regard to height and age structure, the width of the buffer zone can be restricted to 5 or 10 m.
