We were not prepared for that since we were mainly prepared to start off again on the right foot, to take the necessary time to start off on that basis, to discuss matters with the Aboriginal nations and especially to come to a consensus so that, as full-fledged equal partners, not as players in the old dominant-dominated scheme of things, we could start off on a new basis and try to solve the real problems of the First Nations.
On ne nous avait pas préparés à cela puisqu'on nous avait préparé surtout à repartir sur de bonnes bases, à prendre le temps voulu pour repartir sur ces bases, à en discuter avec les nations autochtones et surtout à en arriver à un consensus pour qu'on puisse, comme partenaires égaux à part entière et non pas comme acteurs de l'ancien schéma dominant-dominé, repartir sur de nouvelles bases et tenter de régler les vrais problèmes des premières nations.
