I feel that this document is extremely important, and it is crucial that Mrs Hermange has stressed that illiteracy does not just mean not knowing how to read and write, but not understanding discussions and being unable to move about in modern society, where it is not enough to know how to read and write but where a certain culture and savoir-faire are necessary for a person to have any status. In some States of the European Union, this form of illiteracy is as high as 30 to 35%.
J'estime ce document essentiel et je pense qu'il est important que Mme Hermange ait souligné que l'illettrisme, ce n'est pas seulement ne savoir ni lire, ni écrire, mais aussi ne pas comprendre les discours, être incapable de se déplacer dans la société moderne où savoir lire ne suffit plus et où il faut également une certaine culture et une certaine habitude pour être quelqu'un. Dans certains États membres de l'Union européenne, ce type d'illettrisme atteint carrément les 30 ou 35 %.
