Comme l’a dit M. Watson, nous sommes tout spécialement préoccupés par ce qui se passe à Guantánamo. Je souhaite saisir cette occasion pour condamner le fait que M. Emilio González, porte-parole du président Bush pour l’immigration et la citoyenneté, a déclaré, dans la ville d’Oviedo dont je suis maire, que Guantánamo était un modèle en matière de droits de l’homme. Nous ne pouvons pas tolérer cela et je crois que l’Union européenne ne peut pas détourner le regard, comme l’a fait une génération précédente au moment de l’Holocauste.
Specifically, as Mr Watson has said, we are very concerned about what is happening in Guantánamo, and I would like to take this opportunity to condemn the fact that Mr Emilio González, President Bush’s spokesman on immigration and citizenship, stated, in my city, Oviedo, of which I have been mayor, that Guantánamo is a model in terms of human rights; that is something that we cannot tolerate and I believe that the European Union cannot look the other way, as a previous generation did in the case of the holocaust.
